So, does anyone here have a favorite astronomy book? It could be anything, from the book that helps plan your observing sessions to the book that introduced you to the astronomy.
My favorite is The Nature Companions Practical Astronomy. It's nothing special, and I don't think anyone else on here has heard of it, but it was the book that introduced me to amateur astronomy and it is pretty well written.

too many to single any one book out but my latest acquisition is Stephen James O Meara's" the Caldwell Objects" which I really like.

I have on order Sue French's "Celestial Sampler" and I think I'm going to like that a lot too icon_smile.gif

With all the questions we get about what Telescopes to buy or what eyepieces to get etc., I am surprised that no one suggests a book about equipment.
A good one to explain the basics and that contains good descriptions of the Major Brands is Harrington's "Star Ware"
If you ever wanted to know the difference between a Meade and a Celestron SCT, here is a good place to start.

HMMMMM,
In the ecition I have he spends a fair amount comparing Meade and Celestron's Goto software.
Anyway, It always helps to get the latest updates. He used to have updates on his website, but I haven't visited for quite a while.

Just so you know, I bought my copy new a few months ago, so it should be the latest edition. (the current edition talks about both manual and Go-To SCTs)

Seeker - I've been kinda' drooling over Sue French's book. I plan on getting it at the next "opportunity." I love the way she writes and relates to her subject matter. I'd be interested in hearing what you think about her book, but then again, I think it just a compilation of her columns in S & T, right? Even so, it'd be nice to have them all in one collection.
