This scope is on ebay right now for 10 days. The reserve for it is set for under $300. Heres the link to it...

First off this is not my telescope it is my fathers. He wanted me to try to sell it on here for him. About 12 years ago my dad bought the 16” Orion Deep Space Explorer PREMIUM, focal length 1828mm, f/4.5. He paid about $2000 total for the scope. Once he received it he already knew he wanted to make it something more. So then he started building a telescope to automatically search the night sky for comets and/or stars. At one point in time before he stopped working on it, he had the scope and a computer working together so that he could click a star on the computer and the scope would go to it. He worked on it for about 2 years, maybe a little more, and then he got real busy and hasn’t touched it since. It has been in storage with a blanket wrapped around it to keep it dust and dirt free. All the other parts were kept in boxes. Everything in this auction cost him all most $5000. So his loss is your gain.

His project consisted of a bunch of different systems working together. Some of the systems are complete and some still need a little work. He was working on this project that was never done before to this scope. I don’t know a lot of the specifics about this scope and the stuff included so if you have any questions please feel free to ask and I will try to get you a specific answer. I will try to list as much as I can to give you an idea of what comes with the scope.

- Orion Deep Space Explorer Premium (to our knowledge they do not make the premiums anymore, the mirror that came with them was one of the best made), 16" Dobsonian telescope on a custom stand(just made out of 2x4’s and the stand does have wheels), JMI moto focus($125) on 2" Crayford eyepiece($250), 8x50mm Orion finder tube with laser retackle($275), tube cover to prevent dust from getting the scope.

- Tech 2000’s Dobsonian Driver II ($800), DDR2-SYS scope control system with large pulleys, belts, and 2 HR4-Gx hi torque stepper motors. This auction includes the DDR2-PCR roboscope software for pc interface and DDR2-CCD, ST4 compatible CCD auto guider interface. Click here to go to Tech 2000’s website for more info http://homepages.accnorwalk.com/tddi/tech2000/

- Cookbook 245 CCD camera kit. It has been assembled and it did passed the electrical test with operational manual and the uninstalled LDC upgrade. He has yet to get it to focus correctly with the telescope though. Not a problem just is going to take a little time to see why it wouldn’t focus with the scope. The camera is meant to be liquid cooled but we don’t have the hoses or the bucket. This will cost maybe $10. All you need is a bucket to hold about 2.5 gallons of water and ¼ or ½ inch (don’t remember which) hoses to connect to the camera. Click here for more information about the Cookbook Camera from their homepage http://www.wvi.com/~rberry/cookbook/cookbook.htm

- Mel Bartels ALTAZ scope controller system ($500). To my knowledge, like I said I don’t know much about astronomy or scopes, this is used for moving the scope. This is how he got a computer to go to a star from a single mouse click. He said he thinks the system is done but he wasn’t sure. You DO NOT get a computer with his auction but you can still run the scope with out it. It just won’t go to a star that you pick. You will have to guide it to the star yourself unless you buy a cheap computer.

- You also will get some various items with this auction. Things like a collimating eyepiece, a camera T focuser, lens adapters, and a manual focuser to name a few. There is a lot of different software included. I think there are at least 5 programs. More then this is listed but I don’t know what it is and it’s a lot to list.

Everything listed here or in the pictures will be included. We may even find some items that are not listed or pictured that will also be included but I’m not sure. He has items for this scope everywhere. Everything should still work because it was kept stored away safely. I will not accept this item back because it’s too large and to much work to have to put it all away again.

I am hoping the winning bidder of this great deal decides to pick it up locally. The scope is big and heavy. It can be disassembled. If you want the dimensions once the different parts are disassembled email me and I will send you a drawing I scanned showing the dimensions. With it all put together the height is about 6.5 feet. The width with it all put together is about 6.5 feet also because of the length of the scope. I can’t even take a stab at how much it weighs, but it is heavy. Now if someone really wants me to ship it to them that is all their responsibility. They must find the shipping method, arrange the method, pay the shipping charges, and I would really want to them to pay through Paypal if it were to be shipped. I am willing to discuss all of this though. Please if you have any questions at all ask and I will contact my father to find out your answer. I expect the payment within 72 hours of the end of this auction unless you will be picking it up and paying with cash. Item must be picked up within 7 days of the end of this auction. This scope can be very simple to use for a first timer. Just don’t use all the sophisticated stuff with it. You couldn’t even buy just this scope for the price the reserve is set at (less then $300). The scope obviously can be used by an expert that want to use this like my father did. Either way this would be a lot of fun for anyone to use.

Bid confidently I have 100% feedback and I have sold big things on here before like my old 1990 Ford Mustang GT, and our old Nautilus Tread Climber. Thanks and happy bidding!
